MUBALA ORGANISATION BRAND IDENTITY
Mubala started in response to the needs the NGOMANENE PROJECT (a volunteering activity done in the village of Ngomanene, Uganda) had seen in their first editions.
We were in charge of designing the brand identity. In order to do so, we rescued an old design we had done previously for the tees. It was key that it reminded us of Africa and, obviously, we couldn’t forget one of the core ideas of the volunteer: poverty. But, how to mention it without being sappy? This is where the gorilla came in.
As Uganda is one of the countries with the most gorillas in the world, we decided to include them in the logo. However, the gorilla in the design is no ordinary one. Among the packs of gorillas, there usually is one that's the leader, called a silverback. The one in the design is indeed a silverback, but we can see that he has a child lying on his back, as if covering what would be his 'silver'. And therein lies the key.
Every summer, Mubala organises a volunteering activity in which 50 people become the Silverbacks who will be 'carrying' many needy children. But let's hope they don't stop there. Let's hope they don't mind getting their silver backs stained and full of children riding piggyback. Because, in the end, even if the silver is covered or even if we don't see it, we know that doesn't mean it's not shining. Not only will it be shining, it will be shining brighter than ever.
May this logo remind us, above all, how Mubala and their volunteers can shine in the dust.
Commissioned by the Mubala Organisation in July 2025. Designed by Scoop Brand.
